Set in the remarkable UNESCO city of Mikulov, the client’s brief was to create an interior which prioritises natural materials & ecology, low carbon impact, and a guest experience including organic local food & wine complimented by natural wellness treatments.

 

This new vision for sustainable 5 star luxury has inspired a design approach which is based on traditional local materials and craftsmanship, inspired by this unique location. All beds are orientated toward windows, providing spectacular views of the the pilgrimage route and chapels on Sv. Kopaček and across the historic city. Bathrooms are inspired by traditional Moravian tile patterns and colours, finished with hand made clay tiles and washbasins cut from solid blocks of local stone.

 

Inspired by the owners wine business, we created a new floor finish which is a mix of low carbon cement and chopped cork, providing a uniquely warm and soft touch with excellent acoustic properties. Fabrics are dominated by locally made organic linens, and bedheads are hand printed by a young local artist, ensuring each is specially crafted and unique.

 

The main arrival is through a semi-underground space, naturally day-lit and a nod to the traditional historic wine cellars of Mikulov. The reception desk is made from polished copper, with a backdrop of organic hand made wallpaper made from local wildflowers and grasses. This in turn connects to a 200 year old renovated brick vaulted cellar providing an authentic wine tasting experience, and space for weddings and private gatherings.

 

At garden level the ‘living room’ lobby, glazed restaurant and bar showcase recycled bricks, metals and woods from the existing building on the site. All other materials from the demolition will be recycled and used in another family resort hotel which we are currently designing for the same client in Mikulov.

 

Two new vaulted wine cellar spaces are being built at the lower level, which will include a 16m long swimming pool with pigmented earth wall finishes, and 4 saunas with ice and a cold plunge pool. Three private wellness suites compliment an extensive garden including an all year natural bio-top swimming pool, garden sauna, relaxation and dining terraces, with views toward the pilgrimage route through a newly planted vineyard.

 

Konšele will become Mikulov’s signature 5 star boutique spa, wine and wellness experience, combining sustainable and organic luxury with an authentic natural experience.
